What Is SIV Training in Paragliding?
SIV: Simulation d’Incident en Vol
SIV is French for simulation of an incident in flight. Instead of waiting for the air to surprise you, you provoke the classic incidents yourself — high above the water, with an instructor on the radio and a rescue boat below — and you practise the recovery until it becomes automatic.
Which Manoeuvres Do You Practise?
- Asymmetric collapse and its recovery
- Frontal collapse and pitch control
- Full stall and spin exits
- Spiral dives and spiral neutralisation
- Wingovers and other acro fundamentals for advanced pilots
Why Over Water?
Over water, altitude is a cushion and the landing area is soft. Every pilot wears a life jacket — you can rent one from FLYSPOT for 5 € a day — and a rescue boat is on station for the whole session.
Who Is SIV Training For?
SIV courses are for licensed pilots who already fly regularly and want to fly better: better reactions, calmer decisions, and the confidence that comes from having felt every bad situation and come out of it safely.
