How to Get to Ölüdeniz for Paragliding

How to Get to Ölüdeniz for Paragliding

Ölüdeniz sits about 14 km south of Fethiye on Turkey's Turquoise Coast. From Fethiye, take the dolmuş or drive 20–30 minutes over the Ovacık and Hisarönü pass. From Dalaman Airport, allow 70–90 minutes by private transfer. Cruise passengers should allow two to three hours for the flight plus transfers.

Where Ölüdeniz is

Ölüdeniz is a resort village in the Fethiye district of Muğla province, on the southwest coast of Turkey. It is built around Belcekız beach and the Blue Lagoon, with Babadağ rising directly behind the lagoon. The paragliding offices, landing beach and cable-car base are all in or near the village.

The nearest city is Fethiye, about 14 km north. The nearest airport is Dalaman (DLM), about 55–65 km northwest.

From Fethiye

The cheapest and most frequent option is the dolmuş, a white minibus that runs from central Fethiye to Ölüdeniz.

Option Time Notes
Dolmuş 20–30 minutes Every 10–15 minutes in summer; tap a contactless card
Taxi 20–30 minutes Faster and door to door; agree the fare before you get in
Private car or transfer 20–30 minutes Best for families, groups and luggage
Organised paragliding pickup 20–30 minutes Included in some packages; confirm your hotel zone

The dolmuş leaves from central Fethiye, near the new mosque and the main minibus stop. It climbs through Ovacık and Hisarönü, then drops down to the beach. In summer it runs late into the evening; in winter the service is less frequent.

From Hisarönü and Ovacık

Hisarönü and Ovacık sit on the mountain road between Fethiye and Ölüdeniz. They are a short drive from the beach, the cable-car base and the paragliding offices.

This is the most convenient base if you want a quieter hotel and an early flight. You avoid the Fethiye traffic and you are close enough to walk to some launch offices. Many operators include pickup from both villages.

From Çalış Beach

Çalış is a beach suburb on the west side of Fethiye bay. A pickup there crosses Fethiye town before heading south, so it takes longer than a pickup from central Fethiye: Çalış is about 20 km from Ölüdeniz, roughly 30 minutes by car.

If you are staying in Çalış, book a package that includes pickup and confirm the meeting time. Do not plan to take a dolmuş from Çalış to Ölüdeniz directly; you will usually change in Fethiye.

From Dalaman Airport

Dalaman is the nearest airport. The drive follows the D400 coastal road through Göcek and Fethiye, then climbs over the Hisarönü pass to Ölüdeniz.

Option Time Notes
Private transfer 70–90 minutes Door to door; fixed price if pre-booked
Taxi 70–100 minutes Metered; can be expensive for the distance
Havaş bus plus dolmuş About 110–140 minutes Bus to Fethiye Otogar, then dolmuş to Ölüdeniz
Shared shuttle About 2–2.5 hours Stops at multiple hotels

A private transfer is the least stressful option if you are arriving on a late flight or flying the next morning. The public route is cheap but requires a change at Fethiye bus station.

From Antalya or Marmaris

Antalya is about 201 km from Ölüdeniz and Marmaris is about 137 km. Both are long day trips, and a paragliding flight on the same day is risky if the weather turns. If you are coming from either city, stay overnight in Fethiye or Ölüdeniz and fly the next morning.

Cruise passengers

Fethiye port is about 15 km from Ölüdeniz. Cruise ships that call at Fethiye usually have a limited window, so timing matters.

A tandem flight plus transfers takes two to three hours from pickup to drop-off. Add the drive from the port to Ölüdeniz and back. If your ship is in port for six hours or more, an early flight is feasible. If the call is shorter, stay in Fethiye and watch the paragliders from the beach or take the cable car for the view.

Book the earliest slot, confirm the all-aboard time, and keep at least an hour of buffer. Summer traffic on the Fethiye–Ölüdeniz road can add time, so do not cut the buffer.

Where the flight leaves from

Our office is in Ölüdeniz, on Denizpark Caddesi, Belcekum 2 Sitesi, No:15, Daire 2/B, 48300 Fethiye. The Babadağ cable-car base station is on the Ölüdeniz main road at 226 m, a short drive from the office.

If you are meeting us directly, send your hotel name and we will confirm whether pickup is included or whether you should come to the office. Do not rely on a map pin alone; the village has several one-way streets and the office entrance is easy to miss.

Do you need a car?

No. The dolmuş, a taxi or an organised transfer covers the whole trip. A car is useful if you want to explore the coast before or after the flight, but parking in Ölüdeniz is limited in summer.
