T1 is the first tandem licence. You fly a bigger two-seat wing with a second person in front of you, and learn the launch, flight and landing routine that keeps a passenger safe.

What it allowsNon-commercial tandem flights. Flying paying passengers needs T2.
Before you start
- P5 certificate, completed in order
- Age 18 or over
- Logged experience after P5 (commonly at least 50 flights / 20 hours and around 180 days)
What you learn
- Tandem launch, flight and landing procedures
- Passenger briefing, balance and communication
- Emergency management and SIV with a tandem wing
- Reserve parachute deployment
To complete the level
- Around 50 tandem flights
- At least 5 of them as the passenger with an instructor flying
- Most of the rest as the pilot, carrying licensed pilots (P2 or above) as passengers
- Very little margin for error; fail and you repeat the course
Exact minimums (flights, hours, waiting periods) are set by THK and THSF and are updated from time to time. The numbers on these pages are the typical published minimums; always check the current course announcement before you apply.
