Ölüdeniz Paragliding Age and Weight Limits: Who Can Fly?
Most Ölüdeniz operators fly children from about four or five years old with parental consent, adults with no upper age limit if they are mobile, and passengers up to roughly 100–110 kg. Pregnancy, recent surgery and serious heart or back conditions usually rule out a flight. Flyspot's own limits are 5 to 75 years old and 100 kg (90 kg for women). The pilot makes the final call.
Quick rules
| Question | Typical answer in Ölüdeniz |
|---|---|
| Minimum age | About 4–5 years, operator-dependent, with parental consent |
| Maximum age | No fixed limit; you need to walk on uneven ground and follow instructions |
| Maximum weight | About 100–110 kg on most wings; some operators accept heavier by arrangement |
| Minimum weight | About 25–35 kg for small children, depending on harness fit |
| Pregnancy | Not allowed |
| Heart, back or neck conditions | Usually not allowed without medical clearance |
| Disability | Case by case; ask before booking |
| Experience needed | None |
Age limits
Children can fly tandem, but the minimum age is set by the operator, not by a single national rule. Local pages range from four years old to five, and some resellers set a higher limit of 16. The differences come from insurance, harness fit and the operator's risk policy.
For minors, expect to sign a parental consent form. A parent or guardian usually needs to be present at the office or the launch. Some operators ask for consent under 18; others only for younger children. Ask when you book.
Across Ölüdeniz there is no single upper age limit, and passengers in their seventies and eighties have flown. Flyspot flies passengers up to 75. The real test is mobility: can you walk a few steps on uneven ground, stand up from the harness and follow the landing instruction? If you use a walking aid or have severe balance problems, ask for a case-by-case assessment.
Weight limits
Tandem wings are certified for a combined pilot and passenger weight. The passenger limit is therefore not arbitrary: it depends on the wing, the pilot, the altitude and the day's thermals.
Across Ölüdeniz, most operators publish a passenger ceiling between 100 kg and 110 kg. Some vary the limit by wing, pilot and conditions. The sensible approach is to ask for the limit in kilograms, not stones, and to be honest about your weight when you book.
Flyspot's limit is 100 kg for men and 90 kg for women. Above these limits safety cannot be guaranteed, so heavier passengers should contact us before booking.
If you are close to the limit, book earlier in the day. Morning air is smoother and cooler, which gives the wing better performance. Do not leave the disclosure until you reach the launch.
Pregnancy
Paragliding is not recommended at any stage of pregnancy. The harness puts pressure on the abdomen and pelvis, and the landing can involve a firm touchdown. Most operators refuse pregnant passengers outright, and that is the right policy.
If you are pregnant and still want the view, take the Babadağ cable car to the 1,700 m station. You get the lagoon panorama without the flight.
Health conditions
Tell the operator about any condition that affects your heart, lungs, back, neck, balance or ability to follow instructions. The common restrictions are:
- Heart conditions, including recent heart attack, uncontrolled arrhythmia or angina
- Epilepsy that is not fully controlled
- Pregnancy
- Recent surgery, especially back, abdominal or joint surgery
- Severe back or neck problems
- Panic disorder or a diagnosed phobia that has not been treated
- Severe asthma or breathing problems that worsen with altitude or anxiety
Some operators ask for a doctor's note for asthma, epilepsy or heart conditions. Others simply decline. Do not argue with a pilot who says no. The pilot is the person who has to land the wing.
Disability and limited mobility
Some Ölüdeniz operators can take passengers with limited mobility, including passengers who use a wheelchair, if the transfer, harness and launch can be adapted. It is not a standard product, and it depends on the individual's needs and the day's conditions.
Ask before booking, and describe the specific needs: can the passenger transfer into a vehicle, stand for a few seconds, and sit in a reclined harness? If the answer is yes, the operator may be able to arrange a suitable pilot and extra ground crew. Do not assume that a standard ticket includes that support.
Why official rules and operator rules differ
Turkey's Culture and Tourism Ministry page on paragliding lists a lower age limit of 16, an upper limit of 55 and a weight range of 40–130 kg. Those figures are general tourism guidance and do not match current tandem practice in Ölüdeniz, where children from about four or five fly with consent and passengers in their seventies and eighties have flown.
The practical rule is simple: the operator's insurance, the pilot's assessment and the day's conditions decide. If an operator quotes a limit that differs from the ministry page, ask why. A clear answer about insurance and wing certification is a good sign.
What to tell us when you book
Send these details in one message:
- Each passenger's age
- Each passenger's approximate weight in kilograms
- Any medical condition, pregnancy or recent surgery
- Any mobility aid or transfer need
- Your hotel and preferred slot
We will tell you honestly whether the flight is suitable, and if it is not, we will suggest the cable car or a beach day instead.
Frequently asked questions
What is the minimum age for paragliding in Ölüdeniz?
Most operators set the minimum at four or five years old, with parental consent. Some resellers set 16. Confirm the operator's rule before booking.
Is there a maximum age?
At Flyspot the maximum age is 75. Some other operators fly fit and mobile passengers who are older. The pilot will assess whether you can walk on uneven ground and follow instructions.
What is the weight limit?
Most operators publish 100–110 kg per passenger. Flyspot's limit is 100 kg for men and 90 kg for women. Confirm before booking.
Can pregnant women paraglide in Ölüdeniz?
No. Pregnancy is a standard exclusion because of harness pressure and landing impact. Take the cable car instead.
Can people with disabilities fly?
Sometimes. It depends on the passenger's mobility, the harness, the transfer and the launch. Ask the operator before booking and describe the specific needs.
Can children fly alone?
No. A child flies with a tandem pilot and needs parental consent. A parent or guardian is usually present.
